Concrete placement underway during construction of the DHL Istanbul Airport external pavement.

Completed in 2019, the DHL Express Logistics Centre at Istanbul Airport is part of a €135 million investment in cargo handling and logistics infrastructure. The development covers a total area of 42,000 m², including 23,500 m² of external concrete pavement designed to accommodate cargo trucks and logistics operations.

BarChip 48 macro synthetic fibre reinforcement replaced two layers of conventional steel mesh in the 200 mm thick concrete pavement. Eliminating steel mesh installation reduced labour requirements while allowing concrete to be placed and finished more efficiently, without the obstruction of conventional reinforcement.

These construction efficiencies enabled a crew of just five workers to complete approximately 1,000 m² of pavement per day, delivering significant savings in construction time and labour requirements.
